Tucked away in the Malibu Hills about seven miles up from PCH lies the Malibu Golf Club.
It’s been one of the area’s best kept secrets for years, offering a somewhat tight and challenging 18 hole course, cozy club house with bar and restaurant, and more recently an outside wine bar and weekend music.
Many people either didn’t know about it or actually thought it was a private course. While those in the know either paid per outing or joined at an annual rate of about $4,000 for unlimited play.
Well as the saying goes “…all good things must come to an end.” And this Sunday October 5, 2014 marks the last day (for a long while) that the course will be open before it’s closes and undergoes a major renovation.
According to the developer, Malibu Associates, LLC, the Malibu Golf Club will be transformed over the next couple years into an educational retreat (think “think tank”) catering to Universities like USC with about 40 bungalows for overnight guests, a redesigned 18 hole professional course, club house, fitness center and meeting facilities.
The facilities are planned to be kept clustered around about the 20 acres of land that have already been disturbed by the existing club, and a generous amount of native habitat (about 450 acres) will be donated as parkland.
There are also plans to build with environmentally – conscious construction materials, implement recycling of food waste and water usage, and keep the overall rural character of the area.
So while “all good things must come to an end,” the best may be yet to come.”
As a parting thought, savvy buyers of Malibu real estate who also enjoy golfing or horse back riding might also consider picking up some property in the area like my 10 acre Malibu horse ranch at 33204 Mulholland Highway, Malibu, Ca. 90265. This is a great place to live in the Malibu Hills (rural, quiet, surrounded by nature with great views) and should be an excellent good long-term investment.
